AdminHistoryMajor-General Young joined the 35th Regiment of Foot in 1877 and served with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment, in the Egyptian Campaign of 1882 and the Nile Campaign of 1884-1885. From 1892-1897 he was Deputy Assistant Adjutant General in South Africa and commanded the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment, in 1899-1903. He was Assistant Adjutant General 4th (Quetta) Division in 1904-1907, and from 1910-1912 was Major-General commanding a Brigade in India. In 1912 he was appointed to command the Home Counties Division of the Territorial Force, and commanded a Home Service Division in the First World War. He was appointed Colonel of The Royal Sussex Regiment in March 1914, and retained that office until his death in January 1926 when he was succeeded by Brigadier-General William Lushington Osborn.
